Ashton House is situated in the picturesque medieval wool town of Painswick, known as 'Queen of the Cotswolds'. The listed building is built in mellow cotswold stone and boasts an inglenook fireplace with a Cromwellian fire back. Recently a 'Priests Hole' sited between two floors was found,used perhaps during the Civil War. The house has a wealth of exposed ancient timbering and flagstoned floors. Painswick, with its narrow streets has plenty of recreational and visitor opportunities. The church with its famous tombs and 99 yew trees, bears battle scars from the civil war. The 15th century Post Office is the oldest in the country.
